ADJUSTMENT ISSUES
An adjustment disorder is a mental health condition characterized by emotional and behavioral symptoms that arise as a reaction to stressful life events or change. These symptoms typically begin within three months of the triggering event and can cause significant distress or impairment in daily functioning. Adjustment disorders are often temporary and tend to improve as the individual adapts to the new situation or stressor.
Common stressful events that can lead to adjustment disorder include:
- Loss of a loved one: Death of a family member, friend, or pet.
- Relationship issues: Breakups, divorce, or conflicts within family or social circles.
- Work or school changes: Job loss, starting a new job, academic difficulties, or changes in school
- Health Issues: Diagnosis of a medical condition injury, or chronic illness.
- Financial Challenges: Significant financial strain, bankruptcy, or unexpected financial hardships.
- Moving: Relocating to a new city or country
- Trauma: Exposure to traumatic events like accidents or natural disasters.
Change is hard! Counseling provides an environment to process through your stress and return to an improved healthy state of functioning.
